2016 Toyota Land Cruiser Review

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

The amazing machines I’ve been lucky enough to test have brought me to some extreme places.

From pushing my limits behind the wheel of a Lamborghini on a Spanish race track to fording a river of melting glacier water in a Land Rover in Iceland, I’ve been to some amazing places. But my latest is certainly the most epic of any adventure yet: driving one of the world’s most capable off-roaders, the Toyota Land Cruiser, through what might be the planet’s most remote and dangerous environment: the Australian Outback.

Toyota Can Do Luxury

As a result, it’s extremely well-equipped. There’s almost every luxury feature you could want and it’s a beautiful place to be in. Yes, it’s a Toyota, but this is not a Corolla, folks.

There’s a push-button ignition, four-zone automatic climate control, a heated power steering wheel, radar cruise control, a 14-speaker audio system and even a fridge in the center console.

Review: Toyota RAV4 Hybrid is a no-brainer gas saver

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Even in times like these when gasoline is dirt cheap, Toyota seems to have come up with another hybrid that makes sense.

In fact, it makes so much sense we’re surprised that relatively few SUV buyers are expected to make the obvious choice.

We’re talking about the hot-selling Toyota RAV4 Hybrid, the eighth hybrid in the brand’s lineup.

The formula is achingly simple: Take a hot-selling vehicle in one of the hottest segments, compact crossovers, and give it a hybrid that adds power and fuel economy at the same time, then bring it in at a modest premium over the conventional version.

There. Easy. Mission accomplished. Yet, for all of its advantages and maybe because of the low price of gas, Toyota officials say only 10% to 15% of RAV4 sales are expected to be the hybrid. Go figure. It’s a surprise for a vehicle that’s so solid.

Review: The 2016 Toyota Prius Is Press-And-Go Efficiency

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

Over the last few months, I’ve found out just how many people I’ve recommended VW TDIs to – yes, the holidays were interesting; a good rebuttal might have been bringing up the 2016 Toyota Prius. Especially in California, where air quality standards are a way of life, the Prius has been the closest possible thing to guilt-free car ownership for a number of people.

What attracted people to the diesels, however, was that it meant not having to put up with the artificial-feeling controls and the always different looks of the thing. Were it not for sinking fuel prices, the fourth-generation Prius would be in the prime position to take advantage of vulnerable VW owners feeling their green credentials were fraudulent.

But still, Toyota seems poised to keep existing customers happy while luring in some converts to hybrid propulsion. One could argue that the Prius took the, “Buy organic, donate to public radio,” crowd for granted with the last Prius, a car that was developed at a time when Toyota was clearly maximizing profits more than maintaining expected levels of quality and innovation.

2016 Toyota Highlander Hybrid great for families

Tuesday, February 2nd, 2016

The Toyota Highlander debuted 15 years ago in the American marketplace. The 2nd generation 2016 Highlander Hybrid offers room for up to eight and is designed to be the ideal family vehicle. It is available in Limited and Limited Platinum grades. The Highlander Hybrid impresses with power and efficiency. In fact, it’s the most powerful Highlander, equipped with a Hybrid Synergy Drive system that pairs a 3.5L V6 gasoline engine with a high-torque electric drive motor-generator. Torque is communicated to the wheels through an electrically-controlled continuously variable transmission (CVT) and is equipped with standard electronic on-demand all-wheel-drive with intelligence (AWD-i).

The stiff body structure, combined with finely tuned MacPherson strut front suspension and double-wishbone rear suspension, delivers the best-ever ride quality in a Highlander, and electric power steering contributes to the more dynamic character. It comes equipped with 19-inch alloy wheels.
