2016 Toyota Mirai: A fuel cell phenom hits the road running

Wednesday, January 4th, 2017

The world’s car companies are all reaching for the same holy grail: a good-running, zero-emissions vehicle that has long driving range. And is affordable. And can be refueled quickly.

Toyota’s latest entry is an electric-motor vehicle that boasts a range of 312 miles and can be refueled in three to five minutes.

Under the hood, the hydrogen runs through a fuel stack, is mixed with oxygen, and produces the electricity that runs the motor. The only tailpipe emission is water vapor, so the Mirai doesn’t even have a tailpipe.

Like most electric cars, the Mirai is delightfully quiet. Whether around town or on the freeway, there’s no engine noise or vibration, and no sense of the electric motor doing any work except for a slight whir from the transmission.

Junkyard Gem: 1985 Toyota Celica Liftback, Rusty Jones Failure Edition

Wednesday, January 4th, 2017

The third-generation Toyota Celica was built for the 1982 through 1985 model years, and its combination of fuel economy, mechanical reliability, and sporty looks made it a success in the United States. Sadly, these cars disintegrated quickly in rusty areas, and most were driven into the ground elsewhere, so you won’t see many on the street today. Here’s a battered ’85 that I found in a Denver self-service yard a few weeks ago.

This car has a genuine Rusty Jones sticker, almost certainly applied when it received Rusty Jones rustproofing as a dealer option.

Inside this 221,388-mile Toyota, some owner-installed customizing touches have been applied. The side windows have these nice tasseled curtains, for example.

2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Is A Terrific Off-Roader

Wednesday, January 4th, 2017

The TRD Pro series was introduced two years ago for Tacoma. However, for this year, the new generation of Tacoma was presented and TRD option was abandoned. Now the new Tacoma is unveiled and it brings back the TRD.

Exterior – What is new?

There are several significant upgrades on the exterior. First of all, the front grille resembles the one from the FJ, whereas below, on the sides we have LED fog lights. These lights were produced by Rigid Industries, one of the best in manufacturing aftermarket off-road parts. Secondly, the scoop is located on the hood, but it is not functioning. Under the front bumper, there is an aluminum skid plate for off-road driving.

2016 Toyota Corolla has modern practicality

Wednesday, January 4th, 2017

Always bulletproof and utterly dependable in the daily dispatch, the Toyota Corolla has been a long time faithful soldier in the automaker’s product line for over 40 years. With the launch of the eleventh generation Corolla sedan back in 2014, Toyota seeks to become “the vehicle you want to buy, instead of the vehicle you know you should buy.”

The 2016 Corolla features dramatically amplified elements of style, design, quality and craftsmanship, building its stellar reputation for reliability, efficiency and function. The Corolla sedan makes an immediate visual impact with a more expressive, chiseled exterior design that elaborates on the “Iconic Dynamism” theme first seen on the Corolla Furia Concept that debuted at the North American International Auto Show. The new Corolla is distinguished by its tauter, more athletic proportions that ride on a longer wheelbase than the previous model. With the wheels pushed out toward the corners, compact overhangs, and more tapered front and rear expression, the new Corolla communicates a more dynamic compact sedan form, even at a standstill.
